Adel Rotary Club provides dictionaries to Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Schools’ third grade students
Adel Rotary Club President Chad Bird announced today that the Adel Rotary Club has presented all third grade students in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District with their very own Student Dictionary.
The Rotary Club has partnered with The Dictionary Project, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, to provide the dictionaries. The goal of this program is to assist all students in completing the school year as good writers, active readers and creative thinkers by providing students with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come.
The Dictionary Project website states that, `Reading is the most important skill of all. It is the starting point for all the economic and social opportunities this world has to offer. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn.`
Bird stated that a goal of the Adel Rotary Club is to improve literacy and the quality of life for those living in the ADM School District. `Therefore`, he said, `The Club is pleased to present these dictionaries all third grade students as a gift to them and their future.` He encouraged them to remember service clubs like Rotary and that they exist to help the community grow through projects like this.
Approximately 130 dictionaries have been distributed this year by the Adel Rotary Club.
