Big news from the Dictionary Project
LFRW`S UP WITH WORDS project is making a lot of children smile!
The Mandeville Republican Women have already delivered 144 books to Lyons Elementary School at the opening of the school year. MRWs President and Literacy Chair are –
President – Betty Oliver
Literacy Chair – Ruthanne Hilker
Assisting Ruthanne with the presentation to the children were the following members: Cynthia Sicard, Freddie Ballard, Helen Whalen, Susan Carswell, and Betty Parke.
Lynn Pablovich, Region 6 Executive Vice President, is expecting books to go out to more schools. The funds have already been donated – over $ 2,000 – and our ladies in the following clubs will be bringing to books to St. Tammany Schools again this year – the Slidell Republican Women, the Bayou Women Republican Club, Northlake Women Republican Club, and the Republican Professional Women of St. Tammany. More news is expected soon from their Presidents and Literacy Chairs.
And the biggest news reported by Linda Vinsanau from Region 1 is that 2 grants have been received to make sure that 3rd graders through the New Orleans Public Schools and most public schools in Plaquemine, St. Bernard, St.Charles, and St. James Parishes receive dictionaries. Batture Park made another $ 5,000 grant, and the Association of Independent Informational Professionals donated $ 6,000. What a windfall. We can`t wait until we find out the names, schools, and clubs involved in the distribution of these most generous donations.
