Gila County School District gets dictionaries
A consortium of local service organizations: The Pinal Mountain Elks # 2809, Copper Cities Rotary Club, Globe Rotary Club and The Emblem Club # 554 recently met with Gila County School Superintendent Dr. Linda O’Dell to deliver copies of ‘A Students Dictionary’ . Mrs. Dorothy Konczak (Emblem Club) is presenting Dr. O’Dell with her own copy of the dictionary.
The consortium purchased and distributed nearly 500 dictionaries to third grade students throughout Southern Gila County. These volumes are being delivered at no cost to students or parents. Schools that participated in the program were as follows: John F. Kennedy (Superior), Charles J. Bejerano (Miami), Copper Rim (Globe), Holy Angels Catholic School (Globe), Destiny Elementary (Globe), Rice Elementary (San Carlos), Saint Charles Elementary (San Carlos), Tonto Basin Elementary (Tonto Basin), Winkleman Elementary and Young Elementary (Young, Az.). Additional volumes were sent to the Boys & Girls Club of Globe and Dr. O’Dell’s alternative school.
The Consortium had custom labels printed along with a letter to the parents of the 3rd grade students. Each volume contained a red drug awareness ribbon and a ‘Fantastic 4-Super Hero’s Book Mark’. The message to the kids is that ‘Drugs are not for kids’–Hugs not Drugs–It is OK to just say no–Kids and Super Heroes don’t use drugs.
This is the third year that the Globe-Miami Consortium of Elks-Rotary-Emblem Clubs have worked together to support The Dictionary Project.
