Pottstown Rotary donates dictionaries
Recently, the Pottstown Rotary Club helped the elementary students of the Pottstown School District learn the definition of the club`s motto, `Service Above Self.`
Club members visited each of the five Pottstown elementary schools and provided more than 250 dictionaries for fourth- and fifth-graders. The dictionaries become the personal property of the students and will serve as a home resource for them while doing school assignments.
Rotary Literacy Chairman George Jackson said, `The club recognizes reading and writing as two of the most important academic skills that youngsters can acquire to ensure their future success.`
The Rotary Club`s efforts are part of the commitment to `The Dictionary Project,` which has helped more than 8 million children receive dictionaries for their classroom and home use.
Jackson was assisted by members Eric Mitchell and Charles Koening.
Koening stated he is proud of the club`s efforts to provide dictionaries to students throughout the local schools and noted the Rotary Club looks forward to continued efforts to improve literacy and the quality of life in area communities and help make a difference in students` academic performance.
