Optimist Club donates dictionaries
The Sheboygan Falls Optimist Club has always been a big supporter of local education. This year is no exception, as ten members of the club recently distributed 150 dictionaries to third-grade students at Sheboygan Falls Elementary School and St. Mary School in Sheboygan Falls.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, Optimist Club members visited third-grade classrooms to make the special donation.
‘It is rewarding for our club to do this project,’ Sheboygan Falls Optimist Club Dictionary Project chair Evy Hoegger said. ‘Just to see the smiling faces of the students says it all.’
Hoegger says the dictionary project fits nicely in marking Noah Webster’s 250th birthday,’ she said. ‘We can think of no better way to honor his memory than making sure every third grader in our city receives his or her own dictionary.’
According to Hoegger, the goal of the project is to provide a dictionary to all third graders living in the city of Sheboygan Falls, regardless of where and how they are educated.
‘Any parent that has a child in third grade that they are home-schooling, please contact us to receive a dictionary,’ she said.
