Rotary dictionaries
The Housatonic Valley Rotary Club, which was formerly known as the Brookfield Rotary Club, has made a considerable commitment over the last six years to provide dictionaries to third grade students at the three elementary schools in Brookfield.
Jim Fisher, a former president of the club who now serves as an honorary member, has led the effort.
He presented dictionaries to the third grade students during a brief ceremony Dec. 23 in the upper gymnasium at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School (HHES). He said that a combined total of more than 200 dictionaries would be distributed at HHES, the Christian Life Academy and St. Joseph School.
Mr. Fisher said over the last six years, the Rotarians have purchased more than 1,500 dictionaries for third grade students in those schools.
The dictionaries come from The Dictionary Project, which supplies them to other civic groups and to libraries.
The club holds its regular meetings on Monday night at 6 p.m. at the Pasta Garden restaurant on Federal Road.
