Ruritans give out dictionaries
Once more, the King George Ruritan Club is giving the gift of words: a dictionary to every third grader in the county.
That’s more than 350 books to public students, homeschoolers and those at the Navy-supported Dahlgren School.
‘A Student’s Dictionary’ will be distributed:
Wednesday, Nov. 3
King George Elementary School at 10 a.m.
Potomac Elementary School at 11:15 a.m.
Thursday, Nov. 4
Sealston Elementary School at 10:30 a.m.
The Ruritans solicited donations from local businesses to pay for the dictionaries, which cost the service club about $1.70 each.
‘It’s such a great program, I could have gotten twice that much money,’ said Ruritan Aubrey Mitchell, who’s been thrilled by the way the community supports the program and the students respond to the gift.
Last year, King George third graders raved about the books, which include the typical definitions and parts of speech as well as multiplication tables, the Declaration of Independence and information about states, planets and presidents.
Mitchell hopes to make the dictionary distribution an annual project.
