Hallandale Beach Kiwanis Club brings dictionaries to local school
The Kiwanis Club of Hallandale Beach just delivered 150 dictionaries to Gulfstream Middle School in Hallandale Beach, and Principal Brian Kingsley could not be more delighted.
"The Kiwanis Club did much more than deliver dictionaries to Gulfstream Middle School on Wednesday. The Club enabled students to acquire a new language, improve their literacy skills, and ultimately put them in a better position to learn," remarked Kingsley.
The dictionaries were English and English/Spanish, but Kiwanis has more dictionaries on order that are English/French, Russian, and Creole.
Kiwanis Club president Joe Kessel was glowing as he saw the excitement on the faces of the students, stating that "for many children, this is the only book that they can truly call their own," and Kiwanis was proud to extend their generosity this year to Gulfstream Middle after contributing dictionaries to Hallandale Elementary School the past three years.
This project was adopted by the Kiwanis Clubs within the Florida District in 2006-2007 when Phil Yorston served as Governor, but the gifting of the dictionaries has been so well received that many clubs incorporate the donation into their annual club budget.
Kiwanis International is an organization dedicated to serving the children in our community, and the Dictionary Project is just one example of how we assist.
