Project Dictionary goes to Pulo Elementary School
On June 17 last year, DiksyonaryoAtbp brought its Project Dictionary to three Elementary Schools in Bulacan. The schools were referred by a good friend, Tita Valderama who works for the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ).
98 Dictionaries were distributed to the three schools: Pasong Intsik, Pulo and Coral na Bato–all under the supervision of its very kind Principal, Ms. Nida Valcos. Today, almost a year later, Ms. Valcos wrote to us to tell us how the dictionaries have changed the lives of her grade one students in one of the three schools. Here’s her story:
Grade one pupils of Pulo Elementary School were very fortunate to have an individual dictionary. This is through the generosity and kindness of Miss Lia Mañalac, an intelligent field newscaster of GMA 7. Instead of celebrating her birthday, she made it a vocation to give help to charity institutions and public schools.
“My First Scholastic Dictionary”, the dictionary that was given by Miss Lia contains colorful pictures which pupils enjoyed reading. It is of great help in enriching the vocabulary of the pupils.
With the help of “My First Scholastic Dictionary” Project AWAD (A Word A Day) was implemented easily. The teacher gives a word everyday to the pupils. Then the pupils will look for the meaning in their dictionary, the correct spelling, and the teacher will give the correct pronunciation. In this process the pupils were able to give simple sentences using the word they had learned.
This donated dictionary by Miss Lia Mañalac is really a great help to the pupils learning process.
Again, thank you so much for all your help.
Let’s help more kids this year, as Project Dictionary goes to Pampanga and Benguet this June.
