Winners announced in third-grade essay contest

Several Lockhart ISD third graders recently participated in an essay contest sponsored by the Caldwell County Republican Women and the Dictionary Project. More than 350 students wrote essays about a time they spent with a friend. The essays were judged by a panel of fourth-grade teachers, and the winners were announced during a ceremony on Dec. 16, 2010. County Judge Tom Bonn presented the awards, which included gift certificates and award certificates. Winners were: Katie, first place, for "Chinese New Year with a Friend," Emma, second place, for "Creepy Campout," and Ruth, third place, for "Una día con mi amiga."
