Dictionary Project
Remember the joy that came with owning your very first book? And the excitement of discovering new words as you learned how to read? The Catalina Rotary Club has joined with other Rotary Clubs in Arizona and throughout the United States to bring this joy and excitement to third graders.
Each year, our Dictionary Project Chairman, Gene Crandall, along with other Catalina Rotarians, deliver copies of a special “Student’s Dictionary” to each third-grade student in the schools we’ve adopted. In addition to definitions, the dictionaries are packed with lots of information, about sign language, the solar system, the United States, and more. The books inspire students to learn – what’s more, the dictionaries inspire a pride of ownership; for many students their dictionary is the first book they’ve ever owned.
