Dictionary Day at Carl Sandburg Elementary

Carl Sandburg third graders in Charleston, Illinois, have benefited through the Dictionary Project for the past several years. Eastern Illinois University student organizations, Kappa Delta Phi, Middle Level Educators and Student Reading Council, have donated the funds necessary to purchase the dictionaries for Carl Sandburg students and participated in Dictionary Day. The EIU participants assist the young students with activities designed to help become more familiar with guide words, divide words into syllables and determine the best meaning for a particular word. The third graders are thrilled with their new learning tools and look forward using this tool throughout their educational career.
