Dictionary guys keep project going
More than 15 years ago Charles (Chuck) Menzer became interested in the Dictionary Project and arranged to have our local Rotary Club (the Rotary Club of Bristol, Vermont) sponsor our participation in the Dictionary Project. Our Rotary Club disbanded and Chuck passed away, but his legacy lives on as a group of former Rotarians, now called the Five Town GGG Club, continues our local participation in the Dictionary Project. For 15 years Larry Gile and Ted Lylis, members of the Five Town GGG Club (Vermont) have been distributing dictionaries to all of the third graders in our five town area: Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven, and Starksboro, Vermont. There are many things we would give up before we stopped our participation in the Dictionary Project. The excitement that we generate when we enter Bristol Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, Monkton Elementary School, Beeman Academy (New Haven), or Robinson Elementary School (Starksboro) with our boxes of dictionaries is beyond description as the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders recognize us and the word goes out-"THE DICTIONARY GUYS ARE HERE!" The third graders don’t fully understand until the presentation is complete, but their excitement is evident as shown in this picture of the happy third graders of the Lincoln Elementary School, something that we have enjoyed in all of the schools in all of the years we have participated in the Dictionary Project. Well done, thank you, and we will be happy participants for many years to come.
