Rotary Club distributes dictionaries and thesauri
The Rotary Club of Eastwood provides dictionaries and thesauri to third graders in Liverpool, East Syracuse, Minoa, and Syracuse, NY. They have participated in the Dictionary Project since 2003.
The Rotary Club received a lovely Thanksgiving-themed thank-you letter which was signed by all of the third graders at Fremont Elementary School:
"Dear Major Dave & the Eastwood Rotary Club Members,
We would like to thank you for coming to Fremont and your gift of dictionaries. We were so excited to receive them and we know that we will put them to good use for many years to come! In fact, our teachers told us we should be able to use them right through middle school and high school–if we take good care of them.
In third grade, we do begin to use the dictionary as a reference tool. Our teachers have taught us about guide words and entry words. We are encouraged to look words up, instead of asking a neighbor.
Thank you again for the generous gift. Happy holidays from the students and staff at Fremont Elementary."
