Elks Lodge Marks 10 Years of Dictionary Donations
Education is a top priority to the Galesburg Elks Lodge # 894 in Illinois. Working with The Dictionary Project for 10 years, the Galesburg Elks have left a lasting impression on the students in District 205. Members of the organization take the time to personalize each dictionary with a note that the book was given by the Elks. “They really like them,” said Al Urena, the Elks Lodge member who organizes the dictionary donation. “We get thank-you letters from all the kids.” But students are not the only ones appreciative – teachers and faculty alike are grateful that their students receive the gift of a dictionary. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students,” said Silas Willard Elementary School Principal Angela Stockman. “A lot of our students don’t have dictionaries at home, and there are many interesting facts for them to look at.”
