Giving Thanks to Those Who Give Back
When you gather together on Thanksgiving Day, be glad that you can share the day with the people you love, who have given you happiness this year. The holidays are an occasion to spend time with people who have enriched our lives and to let them know how much we appreciate their gift of love.
Our lives consist of relationships – relationships with friends, parents, children, co-workers, teachers and neighbors. At the core of each relationship lies communication. Communication is how we share and express our thoughts and feelings towards one another. We communicate through words, both spoken and written, and through actions. By giving the gift of a dictionary, our sponsors are providing children with the tool to communicate, to express their feelings and ideas. In turn, these children will be able to build healthy relationships.
As the children you reach grow up to become adults, they will be able to build relationships like the ones created by the Federal Way Service Club Network’s dictionary project in Washington State. The Federal Way Service Club Network is comprised of the Rotary Club, the morning and noon Kiwanis Clubs, the Lions Club, the Greater Federation of Women’s Club, the Masonic Lodge, Job’s Daughters, McMillan Grange, Steel Lake Highline Grange and the Des Moines Rotary. By working together over the past seven years, these groups have combined their resources to ensure that more than 15,000 third-graders in the Federal Way School District have been able to enjoy the benefits of owning a dictionary. This demonstrates that when groups collaborate, they can expand their reach and pass along what they have learned to more people within the community. Through The Dictionary Project, club members and students have the opportunity to learn about each other, and learn from each other. Sharing knowledge enriches the lives of everyone.
Best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving!
