Valdosta’s Elks Celebrate National Dictionary Day
VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Elks Lodge # 728 celebrates National Dictionary Day by providing every third grade student in the Lowndes and Valdosta School Systems with their very own dictionary. The Valdosta Elks Lodge provided 1,440 dictionaries to all third grade elementary students in Lowndes County. In keeping with this annual tradition, the Valdosta Elk’s Lodge once again demonstrated that Elks Care and Elks Share.
Dictionary Project Chairman, Roy Hunnewell, along with five teams of Elks and Auxiliary members visited the following elementary schools: Sallas Mahone, JL Lomax, Westside, Pinevale, WG Nunn, Pine Grove, Hahira, SL Mason, Moulton Branch, Clyattville, Lake Park, Dewar. The Elk members contributed the dictionaries and the 35-40 hours of community service time to prepare the dictionaries for distribution and distributing them to each classroom directly to the students. While at the schools, the Valdosta Elks Auxiliary also provided Red Ribbons to each third grade child and to the schools for all the other children as part of the Elk’s Drug Awareness Program.
