The Rotary Club of Taos Milagro Presents Dictionaries
This January and February, the Taos Milagro Rotary distributed over 400 dictionaries to third-graders in six local schools. Since beginning the project in 2009, members of the club have donated over 1000 dictionaries to children in the Taos County region. Project coordinator, Lucille Gallegos-Jaramillo stated, “Dictionaries are important tools for students. Besides finding the meanings, spellings and pronunciation of words, students are given access to world maps, information of world countries, state capitols, weights/measures and important historical events.” By giving the gift of a dictionary, Taos Milagro Rotary members are not only promoting reading and writing skills, they are also encouraging students to learn about the world around them.
Participating members include: Kim Seibert, Marc Harrell, Kellie Evans, Bob Shaw, Lisa O’Brien, Darryl Bouchard, Keith King, Dolly Peralta, Leo Wood, Jay Wood, John Crouch, Bruce Mulligan , Linda Valaika, Wolfgang Collins, Chavi Petersen, Yale Jones, George Jaramillo, Lucille Gallegos-Jaramillo and community member, Lewis Rosenthal. The Dictionary Project would like to thank these individuals for taking the time to personally present the books to each class.
