Julington Creek Elementary Third Grade Students Receive Dictionaries from St. Augustine Rotarians
By Ingrid Jones, Computer Teacher at Julington Creek Elementary
On Feb. 20, Julington Creek’s 173 third graders received dictionaries donated by the Rotary Club of St. Augustine. The Rotary Club of St. Augustine has been donating dictionaries to third graders in the St. Johns County School District for 10 years.
Julington Creek Elementary is very grateful that Doug Martin, Rotary Club of St. Augustine Dictionary Project Chairman and Beverly Slough, St. Johns County School Board Chairperson and Rotary Club member, have included JCE students in this worthwhile community service program.
Dictionaries are one of the most powerful tools which students use in their educational journey. In this age of technology, these timeless tools will be used by these students for years to come.
One of the third grade classes at Julington Creek Elementary summed up the gratitude of the students with the following thank you note:
“Dearest Rotary Club of St. Augustine,
We are so very thankful for the considerate gift of student dictionaries that you have given to us. The gift of literacy is one that we will forever cherish and we are overjoyed that your organization cares so deeply about our education. Many thanks for your thoughtful donation!”
