Mission Viejo Elks Lodge # 2444
The Mission Viejo, Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge in California is working on their 12th annual Dictionary Project. Past Exalted Ruler Hal Mattson shared how much the children enjoy the project every year: “These kids get so excited when they receive their books; they can’t wait to dig into them.” Local parents have also expressed their appreciation for the program; one parent said “Out children just love the dictionaries.”
Mission Viejo Elks Lodge # 2444 funds their project by hosting community bingo nights. Harvey Boelts, Past Exalted Ruler and current Bingo Manager said “We really owe a great debt of thanks to the men and women bingo players of the community and the Elks who work tirelessly to serve them at bingo every week. Credit goes also to the selfless Elk members who raise funds throughout the year to donate to all our Lodge charities. Because of these people we are able to support worthwhile programs throughout our community such as the Dictionary Project.”
Mission Viejo, Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge # 2444 started their Dictionary Project in 2006. Since then, they have donated dictionaries to 57,816 students in their community.
