Broken Arrow Rotary Club Supports Local Literacy with Annual Dictionary Project.

BROKEN ARROW, OK — The Broken Arrow Rotary Club recently completed its annual Dictionary Project, distributing free student dictionaries to every third-grade student across local elementary schools. This effort reflects the club’s long-standing commitment to supporting education and improving literacy in the community.

Third Graders Receive Personal Dictionaries as Part of Dictionary Project

As part of the project, Rotarians delivered hundreds of dictionaries to third graders in Broken Arrow’s public schools. Each student received their own copy of A Student’s Dictionary—a personal tool they can use throughout their academic journey.

Every dictionary came with a name label and a special note featuring Rotary’s values. For many students, this is the first book they’ve ever owned. The experience of receiving a physical book they can keep helps promote reading, curiosity, and confidence in learning.

More Than Just Definitions

Rotary members didn’t just drop off the books—they engaged with the students during delivery. Volunteers spoke about how to use the dictionaries and what makes them special. Beyond word definitions, each book contains maps, U.S. Presidents, multiplication tables, sign language, and more.

These extra features turn the dictionary into a well-rounded educational resource. It’s not just about vocabulary; it’s about giving students tools to explore, discover, and grow.

A Community Tradition with Lasting Impact

The Dictionary Project has been a core part of the Broken Arrow Rotary Club’s service work for years. By personally connecting with students and schools, the club builds strong community ties while making a lasting difference in children’s lives.

This initiative also supports Rotary International’s larger mission of strengthening basic education and literacy—one of its seven key areas of focus worldwide.

Thanks to the dedication of the Broken Arrow Rotary Club, third graders across the city now have a powerful tool to support their learning and spark a lifelong love of reading.
