Camarena Memorial Library and Calexico Rotary Club Team Up for Local Dictionary Project.
CALEXICO, CA — Students in Calexico are turning pages and building vocabulary thanks to a recent Dictionary Project led by the Camarena Memorial Library and the Calexico Rotary Club. Together, they distributed free dictionaries to third-grade students across the city as part of a shared mission to support youth literacy.
This community-driven initiative helps ensure that every child receives their own copy of A Student’s Dictionary, a valuable educational resource designed to strengthen reading, writing, and learning skills.
Supporting Literacy One Book at a Time.
The Dictionary Project provides more than just a list of definitions. Each book also includes maps, historical facts, science references, and key tools like multiplication tables and sign language charts. These features help turn a simple dictionary into a multi-subject learning companion for students.
The Camarena Memorial Library and Calexico Rotary Club worked together to coordinate the effort, making sure the dictionaries reached local students in time to support their current school year.
For many children, this dictionary is their first personal book—something they can use both in class and at home to improve their vocabulary and build confidence as learners.
A Community Collaboration with a Lasting Impact.
This local Dictionary Project is part of a larger national campaign to promote early literacy and academic success. By working together, the library and Rotary Club are ensuring that students in Calexico have access to key educational tools.
Photos of the event and additional updates can be found on the Camarena Memorial Library Facebook page, where the community can see the positive impact these organizations continue to make.
Thanks to this collaborative effort, more students in Calexico now have the resources they need to grow as readers, writers, and future leaders.
