Hanford Rotary Club Delivers Dictionaries to Jefferson Elementary Students
Students at Jefferson Elementary School in Hanford, CA, recently received their very own copy of Webster’s Dictionary for Students, Sixth Edition, thanks to the Rotary Club of Hanford Sunset. This delivery is part of a long-standing local initiative aligned with The Dictionary Project, a nationwide literacy campaign.
Since 2004, Hanford Rotarians have delivered more than 20,000 dictionaries to third-grade students in the greater Hanford area. The goal is to support early literacy by giving every child a personal reference book they can use throughout their academic journey.
The Dictionary Project originated in Charleston, South Carolina, when educators began gifting dictionaries to students. The idea quickly gained momentum and evolved into a global effort supported by service organizations like Rotary Clubs. Over 36 million dictionaries have been distributed worldwide through the project.
The Rotary Club of Hanford Sunset continues to play a vital role in this effort, empowering students and promoting lifelong learning in their community.
