Lakeview Urbandale Kiwanis Dictionary Project.

Dictionaries Deliver Lifelong Learning in Battle Creek, MI

In a heartwarming show of community support, the “Kiwanis Club of Lakeview-Urbandale” in “Battle Creek, Michigan”, recently donated personal dictionaries to local elementary students as part of “The Dictionary Project“—a nationwide effort to promote literacy and learning fundamentals.

For “Harold Oswald”, a passionate Kiwanis Rotary Club member, this initiative stands out.

“Absolutely the best project with the greatest impact on young children’s lives we have ever done,” he said. “Kids just love to learn, and the more excited we can keep them through elementary and middle school, the more it will carry them through a lifetime of learning.”

Other community leaders echo this sentiment. James Morris of the Rotary Club of Oriental in North Carolina and Charlotte Mehrtens of Bluff Grange #1826 in Illinois have seen firsthand how a simple dictionary can spark curiosity and confidence in young minds.

Oswald added, “Keep up The Dictionary Project until school systems provide your dictionary to every student. It does more for reading, writing, and arithmetic than any government program.”

With each book handed out, these volunteers aren’t just giving students a tool—they’re opening the door to empowerment, education, and a lifelong love of learning.
