Minisink Valley Kiwanis Club Supports Literacy with Annual Dictionary Project.
The Minisink Valley Kiwanis Club continues its commitment to education and literacy through its annual Dictionary Project, delivering free dictionaries to local third-grade students. This year, the club donated and personally distributed dictionaries to students at Minisink Valley Elementary and Otisville Elementary Schools, ensuring every child received a personal copy.
For many students, this dictionary is the first book they can call their own. The project is part of a larger national literacy initiative aimed at supporting vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and academic success among young learners.
“This is a program dear to many Minisink Valley Kiwanians,” the club shared. “Our members enjoy interacting with the students as they present them each with a dictionary of their own. Thank you to all the club members who participated in the program, as well as the schools for allowing this program to continue.”
The Dictionary Project has become a meaningful tradition for the Minisink Valley Kiwanis, combining community engagement with a hands-on approach to educational support. The excitement and gratitude shown by students each year reinforce the lasting impact of the program. These dictionaries are more than just books—they are tools that empower children to become confident readers and lifelong learners.
Programs like the Dictionary Project are especially important in today’s educational landscape, where access to learning resources can vary widely. By putting physical books directly into students’ hands, the Kiwanis Club is helping to bridge learning gaps and ensure all children have the foundational tools they need.
The Minisink Valley Kiwanis Club’s efforts highlight the power of local service organizations in shaping the future of their communities—one dictionary at a time.
