Teaneck Rotary distributes dictionaries to third graders
This year, as in the past, the Rotary Club of Teaneck is in the process of handing out dictionaries to all 3rd graders in the public school systems in Teaneck.
Together with the dictionary, each student receives a letter for their parents explaining who are the Rotarians of Teaneck.
In response to the dictionaries that were handed out, the students wrote back with their thanks and appreciation. Here are just a few of the letters received:
`Thank you for the dictionaries. How did you fit all that information in one dictionary?`
`I like the dictionary. I like the longest word at the end of the dictionary. I like that it has a chapter with all the Presidents. I also like the part with the States. I hope that you will come back next year and bring more dictionaries.`
`Thank you for the dictionary. We hope you come back soon. If you come back, the 2nd grades will love you. The whole class wants to see you again.`
`Thank you for the dictionary. Now I can look up words I don`t know. The dictionary will be lots of help.`
`We thank you for giving the dictionaries to us. I really like my dictionary a lot. The dictionaries you gave us are cool with the Braille and the Sign language in it. I hope you will have a good Christmas and a happy new year this year. How do you say the longest word in the English language? You are the best people ever.`
`Thank you for the dictionary. I love Scrabble and I look for good words in it. I also think of words and look them up. Are you sure you spelled the longest word correctly? Do you even know how to pronounce it? But most importantly I`m pleased with the dictionary.`
The members of the Teaneck Rotary want to thank all those for supporting their many fund-raising activities (such as the annual Beefsteak Dinner and Annual Golf Outing), the proceeds of which have gone to the Dictionary Project and to such worthwhile projects as the band shell in Votee Park, senior citizen vans, and the County Bloodmobile. The Rotary has provided equipment to the Teaneck Police Department (defibrillator and field radios), the Teaneck Fire Department (firefighting equipment), and The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps (monitor pagers and safety vests).
The Teaneck Rotary has also sponsored local nursing scholarships, the Community Scholarship Fund, dictionaries for all third grade students, the Family Assistance Center (for our troops at the Armory), the Teaneck High School Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program, sponsoring of youth groups, Holy Name Hospital, Brightside Manor, Feeding the Homeless, Teaneck Youth Sports Leagues, and Teaneck First Night. The Teaneck Rotary Club is also committed to various worthwhile international programs such as Gift of Life (a special program for children with heart defects), Polio Eradication, and Pure Water.
As Teaneck Rotary moves into its 81st year of service to the Teaneck community and various international programs in 2010, they look forward to your continued support. As one member stated, `An organization without border or boundaries, together we can make a difference.`
The Teaneck Rotary Club welcomes business leaders as well as residents to join the club. For further information or to be placed on a mailing list for upcoming events, contact Louis Knaub at 201-487-1333.
