Fundraiser Helps Rotary Meet Key Community Needs
On Feb. 6, the Rotary Club of Port Huron presented its annual “3-Grand Slam” fundraiser at the Port Huron Country Club. More than 200 participants attended.
Rotary President Marge Kopp performed the welcome. John Adair was master of ceremonies, and Brian Thomas delivered the invocation. Jonathan Meldrum chaired the committee in securing the auction items. The Rotary Club Port Huron meets at noon every Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel.
Sixteen cash winners collected a total of $5,500. The winner of the $3,000 dinner ticket drawing was Ed Priemer. Bill Mosher won $650, and Kathy Swantek received $400.
Live and silent auctions were presented as well. This event typically raises $15,000.
The money this event raises is used to support scholarships for Baker College of Port Huron and St. Clair County Community College. It also supports the Dictionary Project. Every third-grader in the community is given a dictionary.
The Rotary International Day Parade and the Rotary Park at the Blue Water River Walk also received financial support.
Grants also support Blue Water Safe Horizons, SONS, YMCA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scout councils, Salvation Army and Blue Water Action Committee.
