Hernando Rotarian Dictionary Project
Twenty-two busy bees (also known as Hernando County Rotarians) worked in a frenzy last week pasting bookplates into dictionaries that will be delivered to every third grader in Hernando County. This project began in 2005 with the Brooksville Rotary Club. At the time, 480 books were delivered. Today, Spring Hill and Spring Hill Central Rotary Clubs have also joined the bandwagon. This year, we will distribute 1,944 books. Since the program began, we have delivered more than 8,200 dictionaries.
Dictionaries are delivered by the Rotarians and personally given to each third grader for free. This is a rewarding project for everyone – student, teacher, parent, and Rotarian. Third grade is the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn. Rotarians believe that this project has contributed to this learning process for 3rd grade students throughout our county.
This event would not be possible without the support of our Rotarian `busy bees.` A special thanks to Edward Jones Investment for storing the books and Osmond Printing for printing the labels.
