etymology
Formed by a combination of the English adjectival suffix -ic (belonging to, related to, pertaining to), which comes from the Greek adjectival suffix –ikos, -ika, -ikon of the same meaning, with the English noun climate, which comes from the Greek neuter noun klima, klimatos (slope, inclination, tendency, geographic latitude) through the Latin neuter noun clima, climatis (inclination, direction) and the Old French and Middle English noun climat (region, zone).
