Lincolnton Lions participate in Dictionary Project
Although the Lincolnton Lions Club are best known for their services to the blind and visually impaired, they have actively supported youth programs such as sponsoring Lions Club International Peace Poster Contests at local middle schools, sponsoring two competitive college scholarships, and Lions Youth Exchange.
Upon learning about the Dictionary Project, Lion Charles Stevens, president of the Lincolnton Lions Club, appointed Lion Robert Tomlinson their local Dictionary Project chairman. After agreeing to serve in this capacity, Tomlinson contacted Dr. Sherry Hoyle, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum for Lincoln County School System. During his conversations, he explained the purpose of the Dictionary Project and asked her a series of questions as follows:
1. Was any business, civic/service organization currently purchasing dictionaries for their third grade students?
2. Would the Lincoln County School System be interested in the Lincolnton Lions Club purchasing dictionaries for their third graders?
3. How many third graders were enrolled in Lincoln County`s eleven elementary schools?
The Lincolnton Lions Club purchased and will have distributed 240 dictionaries between the 3rd grade classes at Battleground Elementary, GE Massey Elementary, and S. Ray Lowder Elementary Schools in November 2010.
Please challenge other businesses, industries, and service organizations wishing to participate in the Dictionary Project and purchase dictionaries for the remaining elementary schools in Lincoln County to remit their checks and make payable as follows:
