Dictionaries delivered to elementary schools benefit third graders

Temecula Valley Elks Lodge #2801 has joined with The Dictionary Project, a national organization, to give student dictionaries to 3rd-grade students.

So far this year, they have delivered dictionaries to seven elementary schools in the Temecula Valley School District: Abbe Reinke Elementary, Helen Hunt Jackson Elementary, Nicholas Valley Elementary, Pauba Valley Elementary, Rancho Elementary, Temecula Elementary, and Ysabel Barnett.

A total of 948 dictionaries have been presented to date.

In February, the Elks plan to continue with the project and to include at least five additional elementary schools.

Temecula Valley Elks first joined in this project in 2005. Over the years, the project has gradually grown from one school the first year, six schools last year, and hopefully twelve schools this current year.

Nationally, the Dictionary Project reached 2,089,264 students last year. The Elks Lodge is proud to be a part of this project.

Additionally, the Rotary Club of Lake Elsinore has donated 1,600 dictionaries to third-grade classes in the Lake Elsinore Unified School District with a total of 14 schools benefiting.

The students of the third-grade classes received the dictionaries at special Rotary assemblies. Students are encouraged to use the dictionaries and practice the principles of the Four-Way Test which promotes honesty, character, and a charitable outlook on life.
