Florence Rotary Club Donates Dictionaries to Third Graders in Florence School District

Members of the Florence Rotary Club recently distributed 1,488 dictionaries to students attending elementary schools in Florence, Effingham, Pamplico, and Timmonsville, South Carolina. The Rotary Club’s 2013 dictionary distribution marked the 10th year that the club has participated in The Dictionary Project, with its first project having been initiated in 2004. The club’s dedication to serving students in the surrounding community is evidenced by its yearly efforts to provide Florence School District elementary school third graders with dictionaries of their very own. For its 2013 Dictionary Project, the Rotary Club was able to visit and distribute dictionaries to students at a total of 15 elementary schools located in Florence School Districts One, Two and Four. A teacher from an elementary school in Florence School District One expresses her thanks to Rotary member John Floyd and his fellow Rotarians in the following note: “Thank you so much for allowing us to take part in your dictionary giving program! The students are loving their dictionaries and using them every time we complete a writing assignment.” The Rotary Club also designed a Rotary Billboard, posted at Briggs Elementary School on Congaree Drive in Florence, South Carolina, to increase awareness of the club’s efforts to provide students with dictionaries. It pictures Rotary Club members standing behind a group of smiling children as they hold up their dictionaries. The billboard proudly displays the words “December is Rotary…Dictionary Month!”
