Our Club has been reading to the 2nd graders at J.E. Moss Elementary for several years. We added the dictionary project for 3rd graders a couple years ago. This school is heavily immigrant-based and more than a dozen languages are spoken by the students. In many cases, the students are the only ones who speak English in their family. Last year’s National President of the BPO Elks was and is a big booster of this program. He is the one who made our lodge aware of the program.

This will be our seventh year of the dictionary project. It has been very beneficial for our club, the community, and most of all the children. We love it and thank you! Great program!

The Omaha Elks Lodge have been participating in the dictionary program for about 5 years. The dictionaries we provide to third-grade students for some of them this is the first book they have ever owned. It is so rewarding to see the children’s faces when we come visit their classes.

This will be our 4th or 5th year of doing the project. Our members love it because it is a quick but very effective literacy project. The 3rd graders love it because it is a fun time and they all get to go home with a book.

This coming school year will be our third year of participation. The first year we purchased dictionaries for one school. The second year we distributed them to the students in three schools. This year we will be distributing them to all twenty-five elementary schools in the district.

Staten Island Lodge is thrilled to help our young children expand their interest in the world around them. To see their faces is priceless!

This will be our fifth year of distribution. We started with one school and now we will be donating to 13 schools this year. The project is great and so well-received by the schools.
