Each year the young people are excited to have this gift of a dictionary presented to them by adults who they see as leaders and positive role models in their community.

The Logan Rotary club has provided dictionaries to all grade 3 students in the county over the past several years. We believe that grade 3 is a crucial year, as this is the first year students are required to take the Ohio Achievement Test. The dictionary provides a resource for the students as they learn and expand their vocabulary.

This is the fifth or sixth year we have been participating in the dictionary project. We truly enjoy getting to deliver the dictionaries to the students. It is fun to watch them open their own dictionary and how excited they are.

We have been doing this for 6 years now I think and find it very rewarding to see the looks on their faces when they receive a book that is theirs to keep. Some of these children have never owned a book that was just for them. This is a very worthwhile project and we plan on continuing with it a few more years.

We think that this is a wonderful project that shows how by giving to others you can be proud of what you have accomplished. We plan to continue to support this project for years to come.

The Wynne Rotary Club has participated in the dictionary project for 6 or 7 years. This project allows for community leaders and business owners who are Rotarians to enter the schools to connect with the students. This project also builds the community’s awareness about the local Rotary Club. I think this project serves a great purpose. I’m glad that it exists!

This is the 5th year that the Marysville Elks Lodge has given dictionaries to the third graders in our county. Each year the program has grown, and we are proud to announce that this year we will finally cover ALL schools in our county.

Out of all that the Rotary Club does, I feel that this service project is the most beneficial for our Scotland County children. So many benefit from this simple act of giving. We as Rotarians benefit even more when we see the voices and smiles of gratitude from these third-grade students. Our children are remarkable; nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart.

We have been delivering dictionaries to our county’s 3rd-grade class for the past ten years. We think it is a wonderful program and love to see how excited the children are when they receive them. Some children comment on how the dictionary is the only book they will have at home.

The Liberty Rotary Club has participated in this program annually since 2002. Over 1,700 dictionaries have been donated to the third-grade students.
