The 3rd grade students who receive these dictionaries are very excited to receive and learn how to use them!! It’s fun!

This is the fourth year that Kiwanis has sponsored this project. The joy on the faces of the children when we hand them their very own dictionary is beyond description. We know that for many of them this is the only book they have in their home that is their own. Fantastic program. Wish the national media would report and support this project.

This is the second year that Saranac Lake Elks #1508 have provided dictionaries for the foreign language program at the Saranac Lake Middle School. We think the Dictionary Project is a wonderful thing and has a great purpose and goals.

We are part of a larger project in London (pop. 350,000), by Area 4 of Rotary District 6330, which has provided dictionaries to Grade 3 children since 2008. In 2009 about 1,500 books were distributed and in 2010 almost 3,000. We have dedicated our participation in this project in memory of our longtime and much loved Sheriff Elmer and his wife Marge Litchfield. The children are anxious to receive them and remember us from year to year.

This project is one of our favorites due to the impact it has on the students.

I’ve been a member of the Elks for some forty years. I’ve mentioned it in Lodge many times that I’ve received the most satisfaction from passing out these dictionaries than anything else I’ve done in Elkdom.

We believe this is a great project. The teachers are enthusiastic supporters, the students are excited to receive the books, and our club members get a big kick out of the program.
