This will be Jerseyville Rotary Club’s eighth year of participation in the Dictionary Project. It is a wonderful program in and of itself. It only gets better when the children find out that these dictionaries belong to THEM and not to the teacher or the school or the district.

The children seem to look forward to the project and the gift of a dictionary. Met someone who does this in a club. I live close to a small public elementary school that is not affluent, so decided to ask school if they would like the dictionaries & they said “yes”. I may make this a yearly personal project. Great idea. Books are very affordable.

We find the dictionary a valuable educational tool as we are committed to the concept that reading is the basis of learning. Weslaco Rotary has been participating in this program for the last 4 years.

This is the 7th year we have offered this program that we have named “Look It Up”. The third graders are thrilled to receive their own dictionary, and through brief presentations, they learn about Rotary, the Library and the local education fund. We have been participating in the project for several years now and think it is an amazing opportunity for everyone. The Dictionary Project is an amazing program for everyone since it provides materials for students who might not otherwise be able to acquire them.

This is an annual project for us and we plan to continue for the foreseeable future. This is one of our favorite service projects. Thank you so much for making the dictionaries available and affordable.
