We have been doing this project for seven years. We did a club assessment recently and this project was #1. The club enjoys participating, and the joy from the kids is catching.

The members of the Yelm Lions Club distribute the dictionaries directly to the children in the classrooms, with the aid and support of the school district and teachers. This is our 4th year in the Project and we are quite proud and humbled by the experience. We are a small group of less than 50 members who hold miscellaneous fund raisers through the year to finance our project. The excitement on the faces of the children is well worth the work we put into our fundraising efforts.

The Kittanning Rotary club works with the Armstrong School District in purchasing dictionaries for all 3rd grades students for the entire district. This is our 6th of 7th year. We love the project and plan to continue to participate indefinitely. Joyce Tornquist, a deceased friend of one of our members, thought so much of the project that she left us enough money in her will to fund the project indefinitely. What a blessing for us.

The Rotary Club of Anne Arundel County began our dictionary project in 2004. Since that time we have given out over 10,000 dictionaries to area third graders. It is our favorite project. The Dictionary Project is a wonderful opportunity for our club to support education and connect with the schools. Thank you.

This is the second year that the Waynesville Kiwanis Club has participated in the Dictionary Project. Teams go to each elementary school 3rd grade classroom. The teacher calls out the students’ names, and the Kiwanians hand the dictionary to each child. Then we conduct a short lesson plan on how to use the dictionary. We always make an appointment to visit each 3rd grade classroom in the district. Often we combine the visit with the opportunity to have the children learn a little about Rotary as well. We may talk about the 4-Way Test or the Principles of Rotary.

Cobleskill Elks have been donating dictionaries to third graders in the Cobleskill-Richmondville School District for the past five or six years. This is the easiest project in Elks to raise money for as the benefit is intuitively obvious.

7 years of making the 3rd graders in the Rehoboth Beach area very happy! For some of these kids, this is the very first book they ever owned and could put their own name in!
