Shirley Born, Kiwanis Club of Sioux Center, Sioux Center, IA
We have ordered dictionaries for many, many years for our local 3rd graders. It’s so rewarding to deliver these and see the joy it bring to each student. We prepare labels saying they are coming from the Kiwanis Club, and we put each child’s name on the dictionary.

This is our fifth year of distributing thesauruses to the sixth graders at Seneca Middle School. We absolutely love the Dictionary Project. By sponsoring schools in our area, it is a great way to give back to our community by investing in the education and future of our children.

We have provided dictionaries to third graders every year since 2006 and plan to continue indefinitely. We love this project. It is one of the most fun things we do all year. For many of the students we serve, this is the first book they, or in some cases, anyone in their family owns. It is one of our best “feel good” projects.
Gordon Graham, Rotary Club of Jeannette, Jeannette, PA
The Jeannette Rotary Club has been providing dictionaries to students at the Jeannette McKee Elementary school for the past eight years.. The dictionary project is an excellent way to provide all students with an important tool which will be used both in and out of school. In some cases this is the first book a student will receive..
Frances Malloy, Altrusa Club of Columbia, MO
We have been participating about 8 years in the dictionary project. Literacy is a big focus for our organization, and we feel that nothing is more important to a child’s development than a dictionary of his/her own. This is a wonderful project that should continue.
Stephanie McKinley-Miller, Rotary Club of Bushnell, Avon, IL
We have been donating dictionaries for about 8 years to the third graders in two area school districts. As the Librarian at one of the serviced schools, I am very appreciative of the Rotary club’s efforts to support our students.
Walter Boomsma, Valley Grange # 144, Abbot, ME
Last year we presented our 1,000th dictionary! We’ve also added a new feature by having select sixth graders attend the presentation with their well-worn dictionaries to explain how they use them to the third graders! This continues to be our most popular project with the community… and it drives many of our other school programs that include reading with second and third graders (bookworming),... Read More
