Kelly Wilson, Rotary Club of Tracy, Tracy, CA
My fellow Rotarians tell me that this is one of the most rewarding projects they are a part of. They love visiting the schools and seeing the kids faces when they get their dictionary. This is our 4th year and we plan on doing this project for many more years!
Amanda Hyer, Rotary Club of Twin Falls, Twin Falls, ID
We wish to encourage the lifelong hobby of reading by providing a means for the kids to look up words in their own dictionary. We love this project! The enthusiasm from the kids is refreshing, and it reminds us the importance of giving something so small that creates something so big in the future.
Beverly Marvin, Fairport Grange # 467, Macedon, NY
We have participated now for several years, and everyone enjoys going to the schools and meeting the students and seeing their appreciation for receiving the books. We think this is a great program. Kids today need all the encouragement they can get to learn to read and write and to enjoy it.
Jo Hackbarth, La Marque Dentists for Education, Texas City, TX
This is the second year the dentists of La Marque, TX, have contributed to purchase dictionaries for the third-grade students of our local school district. The children are so proud to each have their very own dictionary, and the teachers are grateful that every child has one to use during this important year in their education.
Toni Bradford, Rotary Club of Evanston, Evanston, WY
This is the 4th year we have presented dictionaries to every 3rd grader in Uinta County. We try to present the dictionaries when the teachers are teaching the students about dictionaries & how to use them. Both teachers & students love this program we have started.
Roger Vulgamore, Santa Ana Elks Lodge # 794, Santa Ana, CA
This is the sixth year the Lodge has provided dictionaries in these two school districts. It is very rewarding to meet some of the recipients and read the letters they send us. It’s a great program.
John Neville, Rotary Club of Ada, Ada, OH
We think the Dictionary Project is a powerful way to impact the lives of our students and provides Ada Rotary with a “signature project” that gives focus to our fundraising and public service endeavors. We began with three nearby schools last year and have added a fourth this year. This project has the unanimous support of our membership.
Linda Henson, Kiwanis Club of Eastmont, East Wenatchee, WA
We have been doing this for over ten years. We hear nothing but great things about this project from the schools, Kiwanians and others we tell about this project. We have told others clubs about this and they have started projects in their area.
Brian Hartwell, Kiwanis Club of Madison Heights, Madison Heights, MI
We first donate about 60% of the books to all local third graders across two public districts (12 classes). We donate the remaining 40% to middle school and high school students that study English as a second language. Many of these older students are refugees from the Middle East. A thankful student from Iraq commented that our dictionary is the first book he ever... Read More
Patricia Nilsson, Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise, Boise, ID
Boise Sunrise Rotary has been doing this for about 4 years. We involve the newer club members as it’s an easy way to get started on a community service project. Each year we get lots of thank you notes from the students.. I think it’s a great project!.
