“Farrell’s Felines”, The Dictionary Project, Bell’s Crossing Elementary School, Simpsonville, SC
Dear Dictionary Friends, Thank you for coming to our school to give us dictionaries. We had fun looking through the books to find the cool features. We can’t believe that the longest word in the English language has 1,909 letters! The dictionaries are so helpful to third graders, and they are fun to read, too! We really appreciate your generosity, Sincerely, Farrell’s Felines

We are part of a larger project in London (pop. 350,000), by Area 4 of Rotary District 6330, which has provided dictionaries to Grade 3 children since 2008. In 2009 about 1,500 books were distributed and in 2010 almost 3,000. Our target this year is close to 5,000, which will cover almost all Gr 3 kids in our local Public and separate (Catholic) schools.... Read More

We have dedicated our participation in this project in memory of our longtime and much loved Sheriff Elmer and his wife Marge Litchfield. The children are anxious to receive them and remember us from year to year.

I’ve been a member of the Elks for some forty years. I’ve mentioned it in Lodge many times that I’ve received the most satisfaction from passing out these dictionaries than anything else I’ve done in Elkdom.
Harlan Harrell, Rotary Club of Merritt Island – Breakfast, Merritt Island, FL
We believe this is a great project. The teachers are enthusiastic supporters, the students are excited to receive the books, and our club members get a big kick out of the program.
Mike Mickler, Rotary Club of San Jose, Jacksonville, FL
The Rotary Club has been involved with this project for a number of years. The dictionaries are given to the third graders. At the end of the year, the Rotary Club presents achievement awards to an 8th grade student in each class. Many remember receiving dictionaries from the Rotary when they were third graders.

There is nothing like having a child come up to you in the market and say, ‘Momma there is the Dictionary Man!’
Beverlee B White, Boulder Republican Women, Louisville, CO
The BRW thinks the program is great – dictionary with the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. The school is very supportive and the kids love having their own dictionary.
