Ronald Moore, Rotary Club of Wilmington West, Wilmington, NC

It’s great! We usually have a two person team go into the classroom and tell the students about civic clubs and Rotary and then have a few students pass out the books. First we get them to put their name in the dictionary and stress it is their very own book. Then we take them through a number of pages that are interesting like the longest word, the planets, sign language etc. We ask them if they know what dictionaries are used for and explain that these dictionaries can be used for many things. For some of these children, it’s the first book of their very own. We get letters back from many students saying how much they like the dictionary and appreciate the Rotary Club for giving it to them. Some of the letters touch your heart. It is one of the best things we do! I really encourage our members to participate.
