Our program is called the “Dictionary Consortium”, we are Elks, Rotary Clubs, and Emblem Club. We have been doing this for about 4 to 5 years now. It started as an Elks only task but soon we went out to other fraternals and sought to make this a community effort. It is now a very well organized process. We are using Elks ENF grants + assessments from the other organizations to raise about a $1000.00 annually. We print a letter to send home with the kids, a front piece label with club logos on it and then include drug awareness material in each book. At the end we gather pictures of the kids and get the School Superintendents picture in there too. This is the best multiplier or leverage project around and every one are winners. The kids are the biggest winners-they get their own dictionary—the clubs all are working on literary projects, so this gets all or them taken care of, and the $$ spent are minimal but the benefit is huge in the community.
