Megan Jones-Holt, Rotary Club of Clinton Sunrise, Clinton, NJ
Giving the 3rd graders at Clinton Public School dictionaries for over 5 years. They hear about it as 2nd graders and always look for us to come visit them with the books. Some are surprised when we tell them they can keep the books. We have an assembly and go through some of the fun things in the books. The best is always the longest word. Two years ago we forgot to do the dictionaries,so the following year we gave that class the books as fourth graders. They had no problems letting us know that we were missed, but very appreciative we returned and gave them their books the following year.. This is a fantastic project. Its a fun morning to go to the school and explain who we are as Rotarians and why we do this project. Then each Rotarian picks out something of interest in the book and they all read along us us as we point it out. This year we are combining it with Dr. Seuss day where we go in and read a story to the kids. It’ll be an exciting event to do as a combination project..
